A place in the first season of the UEFA Champions League was at stake. Rangers would play English champions Leeds United at Ibrox in 1992-93 season. No away fans were allowed to attend Ibrox or Elland Road for the fixture. But this wouldn’t matter as Rangers ran out 4-2 winners in a momentous occasion for the club.
The atmosphere at Ibrox was sensational. The Rangers team featured Super Ally McCoist, Mark Hateley and Andy Goram. Both McCoist and Hateley would swing the tie in Rangers favour as they made it to the Champions League group stages. See Rangers European run in the competition here.
Second Leg at Elland Road
Rangers would win the game 4-2 on aggregate after another superb performance in England. It was Hateley and McCoist who would tear apart the Leeds United side and silence the home support as Rangers progressed to the first ever Champions League competition to play in Group A against Marseille, CSKA Moscow and Club Brugge.
